This cache is located near the Bleasdell boulder (formerly called the Glen Miller Rock), a short easy walk on groomed trails from the parking area. Follow the signs for the bolder.
Retreating glaciers left this huge 2,000 ton boulder here 20,000 years ago. It is the largest known glacial rock in North America. The rock is of great significance and the government has designated it and the surrounding acre of land as an "Area of Natural Scientific Interest". · The Bleasdell Boulder is now accessible thanks to the initiative of Paul and Maria Heissler who purchased the site, and then established a corporation to oversee the development of the natural heritage site for recreation and education. · It is a metamorphic rock originating from northeastern Ontario. It is 44 feet long, 24 feet wide, and 19 - 22 feet high. · The Bleasdell Boulder Preservation Corporation was formed in 2001. Its mission is to preserve the Bleasdell Boulder and surrounding Lands for future generations and to ensure public access. · The corporation encourages public awareness, understanding and respect for the natural environment. · The Ontario Trillium Foundation has donated $23,600 to help the corporation preserve, promote and improve access to the Bleasdell Boulder. Funds will also be used to produce signs, booklets and educational materials. The parking area to the conservation area with the Bleasdell Boulder is accessed from HWY 33 just south of the Glen Miller bridge on the west side of the river. Look for small signs on the side of the road and take an unassuming gravel road on the west side of the road. You should end up in a gravel parking area with a short path leading to an information sign for the boulder and park. The coordinates will take you to a tag containing the location of the actual cache. The actual cache is in a regular camouflaged container. WARNING: Poison Ivy appears during the summer in a number of locations around the park. To reduce your chances of exposure we will tell you that the first stage can be read without leaving the path. The actual cache is a few meters off the path in an area that is currently Ivy free. Please be very careful where you step and consult this site for pictures and treatment information. http://poisonivy.aesir.com We hope you enjoy the hunt and the area. Our thanks to ComedyAddict who has adopted this cache to keep it going after we left in the summer of 2015.
