Geocache Description:

.22 mile short level walk from Black Mountain Forestry Center parking area, within walking distance of Black Mountain Scout Camp.

Nestled in a beautiful valley between Red Mountain and Black Mountain. Easily accessible from the Black Mountain Forestry Center parking area. Less than a half mile walk out and back over level terrain. The cache has a "Scouting" theme but all geocachers are welcome to visit. If you don't have a scouting item, please leave something "outdoors" related (i.e., pocket knife, waterproof match container, space blanket, etc.). Black Mountain Scout Camp is located just down the road and Silver Lake Park is located directly across the road. Special thanks to the Black Mountain Forestry Center for allowing access to their property. BMFC offers a museum (located in the Gerdrum homestead built in 1894 from a single cedar tree), "high country" tours of a logging industry mountain property, a "World of Wood" celebration each summer which features educational tours of contemporary environmental forestry techniques, "live" living history demonstrations, exhibits, vendors, food, and visits from the Sardis Raptor Rehabilitation Center. Be sure to check out their website (www.blackmountainforestry.com) prior to visiting for current hours of operation to make the most of your visit. Black Mountain Scout Cache is not officially associated with the Boy Scouts of America though the cache's caretaker has been involved in the scouting program for over 36 years. Since this site is located on private property, please practice "cache in trash out."
