This tri-cultural region still hosts Native Americans, Hispanics, and Anglos, and preserves the rich history of each. Near the Village of Pecos are found ruins of an ancient culture eventually caught in transition between their own traditions and these outside influences.

The Pecos National Historical Park a well-preserved and historically significant park with an easy walking trail and available guided tours. Being one of the less well known national parks you may find here an un-rushed and private walk into history.

The "Related Web Page", above, is worth visiting.

The tour is wheel chair accessible, but some of the slopes are pretty steep to qualify for a 2 terrain rating.

While in the area you may wish to take in the broader picture. Pecos preserves 12,000 years of history. In addition to the ancient pueblo of Pecos there are two Spanish Colonial Missions, Santa Fe Trail sites, 20th century ranch history of Forked Lightning Ranch, previously owned by Actress Greer Garson, and her husband, Buddy Fogleson, after whom the Visitor Center is named. This is also near the site of the Civil War Battle of Glorieta Pass, all of which are available by private tour.

As you take the walking tour look for the answers to these easy questions: (updated 6/16)
1) At the "Trash Is Treasure" interpretive sign how many people are pictured in the photo?
2) At Trail Guide Stop #8, there is a photo of a person carrying water. Where was this photo taken?
3) At the "Mission Churches" interpretive sign, what is the earliest date listed?

Take your answers back to the nice person at the registration desk and s/he will award you the logbook to sign. However, not all volunteers know about the cache or the log, which is under the counter. Some geocachers have even been told there is no cache, but it has been re-validated by the head ranger as of March, 2018.

If you come up short on answers, here is a bonus question - "Where along the tour are you allowed to climb on the walls?"
