Geocache Description:

A GREAT HISTORIC VILLAGE JUST OFF THE INTERSTATE

Philip Church established the village named for his mother, Angelica, as a planned community, developed around a Park Circle. The architecture of village homes was principally Classic Revival until after the 1860s when the Victorian fashion added decoration and embellishment to the existing temple-formed buildings. Since the early 1900s when another spurt of building activity occurred, there has been little new construction. With the exception of street lighting and a few picture windows, the village looks as serene and unchanged as it appeared at the turn of the century.

Approximately eight separate antique and country stores are located along the west Main Street. Each of these offers a variety of shopping experiences that will occupy the antique and craft collector alike for hours.

Over 100 buildings and houses are in the Historic Village of Angelica. Many are listed as part of the Historic District with New York and the Federal Registers. Of special note are the Town Hall (former County Building), the oldest frame house west of Bath, NY, 4 Church buildings on the Park Circle as well as the Park itself. If you would like a tour the website below offers a great tour of these majestic and historical structures.
