Geocache Description:

The cache is located way up at 9,216 feet at Sherman Pass (named after the famous explorers Peabody and Sherman). The road north of this pass offers numerous high-mountain adventures.

This cache is not always accessible, as the pass usually closes for the winter. From November through early May, recommend calling ahead to the Cannelle Ranger Station at (760) 376-3781 to inquire of road conditions/closures.

Directions: From the Sherman Pass overlook parking lot, head only halfway up the hill to find the cache. Admire the view, and catch your breath, then continue the rest of the way to the top of the hill for some more great views.

This is a good sized cache. Original contents of the cache were: Log book and pencils (stays with cache), and LOTS of new toys.

If you have time after finding the cache, explore the Sherman Pass Road from the pass to Blackrock Ranger Station. It's one of the prettiest mountain roads, with numerous meadows, peaks, and trails to explore. It's also a great place for picnicking, camping, horseback riding (Paloma Meadows has corrals), and also excellent hiking, 4WD, and OHV trails.
