Geocache Description:

The original Mount Airy geocache came back in a search for restaurants of my new home-town of Mount Airy a few years ago (go figure Google!!) Anyway, I had a GPS receiver, so I figured, "what the heck!!" I was immediately hooked. I was sad to see the original cache vandalized and wanted to place a replacement. That’s when Mount Airy II – Coins of the World was born. It lived in Watkins Park for about 5 months and was vandalized twice before finally disappearing completely.

THE LAST CACHER SAID THAT BEES HAD SET UP A HOME NEAR THE CACHE...BE WARNED! DISCLAIMER: BY SEARCHING FOR ANY OF MY CACHES, YOU ARE ASSUMING ALL RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR ACTIONS. I WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE IN ANY WAY.

Here’s to “third time is the charm!” The largest, wooded park in Mount Airy is East West Park. My oldest son’s Boy Scout patrol took a hike back here and found a lot of animal tracks, etc. So I figured, “what the heck.”

NONE OF THESE COINS IS PARTICULARLY VALUABLE!!!! MAYBE WORTH 10 CENTS TO A FEW BUCKS AT THE MOST. PLEASE ONLY TAKE ONE. If you don't have any world coins, I did not put any Sacagawea, Eisenhower or half dollars! This cache has a much larger container, so don’t feel as constrained by the theme. Feel free to leave what you like, as long as it fits.

The cache is in a small ammo can. You have to leave the main trail and go through an area of waist high weeds that crosses a few streams. the cache is only about a hundred feet from the main trail.

Although not included in the cache, next in line of old British pre-decimal coins was called a crown (about the size of our old Eisenhower dollars) which was worth 60 Pence and then came the pound sterling which was a paper note and was worth 4 Crowns or 240 Pence. Is it any wonder that they changed to decimal where 1 pound = 100 pence in the early 1970’s? I miss the old coins though.
