Annuteliga Wise Purchase Traditional Cache

An ammo can cache in the Annuteliga Hammock section of the Citrus Withlacoochee State Forest about .36 walking from the parking. Cache about 100 feet off trail. The original 2004 cache camo is still hanging, but the ammo can is on the ground, under the heavy twists of vine.

Trails are not much used and are overgrown, not a good hike for wearing shorts. Cache in heavy tree cover. Turn off County 491 at 28°40.574 82°27.081 (turn difficult to see, especially northbound) and follow the dirt two track to parking. There is a brown Forest Service sign identifying the Annuteliga Hammock.

This hammock was platted for residential development. It has been repurchased by state agencies. Underlying clay and limerock soils support a heavy hardwood forest quite different from the oak pine hammocks of the adjacent Citrus Section. A trail map is posted at the parking.

Pronounciaton: A-nat'-a-lag-a is the way my 98 yr old friend says it, so I mimic her. Swiftmud says A-nat'-al-ee-ga or A-nna-tal-ee-ga.
