Geocache Description:

You may have to bushwhack a bit to get to the cache location, but not for long, since the cache is less than 450 feet from the nearest road. The cache is in a small ammo can at an elevation of 8884 feet.

One might think of snow as a soft fluffy material, but when it is in the form of an avalanche, snow is a powerful destructive force. The cache is in an avalanche path where you can see evidence of the avalanche's power. As you can tell by the lay of the broken Aspen trees, the avalanche and the debris that is caried with it, comes down from the mountain east of the cache. As you look at the larger Limber Pine near the cache, note how the lower limbs are oriented, and estimate the power and depth of the avalanche snow.

From the cache look west across the road to South Lake, to where there is a telephone line. The pole that is most centrally located in the avalanches path is missing. The avalanche crossed the creek, and the roadway, deposited debris, and snapped the pole that is missing.

Enjoy the hunt, and look for evidence of other avalanches up and down this canyon.

In the cache there is a Logbook, pencil, and a Geocaching Site Notice.
