Geocache Description:

Easy walk along the towpath of the Grand Union Canal to a Nature Reserve

Park at N 52 08 576 W 000 54 877 near The Canal Museum for £2.00 or at N52 08 082 W 000 54 397 (free but limited space and busy in summer). Either location is about a 1/3rd mile walk to the Cache. The Wildlife Trust Wetlands Reserve was once a busy brickworks with an arm leading off the canal and a wharf for loading boats. Between 1849 and 1920 it prospered, but there is little sign now of it's former existence.Instead, depending on the season, you can see Cuckooflower, Ragged Robin, Purple Loosestrife, Common Reed and Primrose Flower. You may also be able to spot Reed Warblers, Coot, Heron and even Kingfisher. At certain times there are sheep grazing in the Reserve. A sign will tell you if there are in which case please keep dogs on a lead.Do not expect to follow your GPS in a straight line to the Cache as there are a number of ponds and marshy areas to negotiate around. For this reason we do not recommend you look for this Cache after dark. Keep to the well worn trails for most of the way. They can be very muddy at times and can sometimes be under water after periods of heavy rain.
