Geocache Description:

This virtual cache is located in Capitol Square and can be easily accessed by all.

During the Civil War, Hunter Holmes McGuire, M.D. was the medical director for the 1st Brigade of the Army of the Shenondoah, served as the personal physician of General "Stonewall" Jackson, and was witness to many battles and much human suffering. Following the war he lobbied for funding for medical care for the indigent and for black patients. He was also dedicated to rebuilding the war-ravaged city of Richmond, Virginia. In addition to his many other accomplishments, Dr. McGuire was the founder of the University College of Medicine and was a physician at the Medical College of Virginia, from which our daughter was awarded her M.D. on May 22nd of 2004. To learn more about Dr. McGuire and his many accomplishments, please visit one of the following websites: huntermcguire.com ehistory.com/uscw/features/medicine/cwsurgeon/mcguire.cfm From information provided at the cache location you should easily be able to answer the following three questions: #1: What is Dr. McGuire holding in his right hand? #2: How many objects are placed under his chair and what are they? #3: What is the name and home state of the sculptor? Log your find. Please do not log your answers here. Email them to the cache owners and we will correct you if you are too far off the mark. Please do not upload any photos that reflect the answers to the above questions but feel free to upload pictures of Capitol Square. We hope you enjoy your visit with Dr. McGuire and your trip to Capitol Square.
