Whistle
While You Work

An Ode
To The McCalla Whistler
The day
was clear so have no fear.
The Mist was forming, but not yet here.
A Dollar
Store item here, a Dollar Store item there.
Soon there would be whistling in the air.
The items
were chosen with the greatest of care,
Making sure all geocachers would like what they found there.
All items
were chosen. It was time to pay,
When next to the register, were the best items of the day.
The wheels
began spinning and a discussion took place,
As thoughts of the Whistler made a smile on their face.
The items
were purchased, there had to be a plan.
Can we do it, yes we can!
No plans
were written, only words were spoken.
It was decided that something would soon be forgotten.
Their
stomachs were growling, nutrition was needed.
The urge to eat was not gone unheeded.
The 'J'
was chosen, the 'J' was the place.
The 'J' was where the Whistler would soon begin the race.
Cash and a charger were the items in need,
So out to the car, I went indeed.
I found
the cash, but not the charger,
I did, however, begin the plan... which was much larger.
Dinner was
finished, the bills were all paid.
As the Whistler left, smiles on faces were made.
The
evening was slow, the Mist was set,
Little did we know, the best was was to come yet.
We met at
the Shell and wanted to yell,
There was no one yet, the story we could tell.
The radio
crackled, the voice was was heard in the air.
Can you call the shop and see if a motor pool car is there?
At long
last, the story could be told...
But no one knew yet, how the story would unfold.
A question
was asked and an answer was stated,
"My belts are slipping and must be replaced!"
Phone
calls were made, the Whistler was told,
Come to the Shell, don't be so bold.
The
Whistler arrived, the Whistler felt fear.
The Whistler had no idea what he was about to hear.
The
Whistler was told of the plot that had been laid.
The Whistler was not happy with with the sounds that had been made.
The
Whistler was told of the plot.
The Whistler stated it would not be soon forgot.
The
Whistler left, with a frown on his face.
I knew that the frown with a smile I must soon replace.
I know it
may happen, but don't know when.
The day the Whistler, with his own evil plot, will begin.
I'll stay wide awake and I'll watch my back,
As I know that the Whistler may soon attack.

Needless
to say, the McCalla Whistler was the subject of a practical joke. The practical
joke involved this item:

Exhaust Pipe Whistle
If
you would like to know what the McCalla Whistler sounded like while he was
working, you can click right here (make sure to check your volume settings on your
computer as it can be quite loud).
I
know that I may soon be the subject of a retaliatory attack by the McCalla
Whistler, but wanted to memorialize the McCalla Whistler in the form of a
geocache. When you find the geocache container, take note that it is filled with
whistles. There's no need to trade an item, just take a whistle and blow it
three times to help preserve the memory of the McCalla Whistler. However, even
if you don't take a whistle, please leave your signature in the log book which
has been provided in the geocache container. For those (Bubba Cache) that may be
wondering, be advised that at the time of the geocache placement there was some
poison ivy in the area :-)
I
hope everyone has fun finding my geocache, don't forget to blow your whistle
three times to help memorialize the McCalla Whistler and don't forget 'To
Whistle While You Work!'
