Original contents are camo make-up, lip balm, magnets, keychain,
playing cards, and trading cards. And a FTF prize and log book and
pen.
Long pants, sturdy shoes, and bug spray is reccommended.
Some bushwacking may be required to get the cache due to all
the spring rain; it is placed in a way so one can duck down and
hide from onlookers. It is off a side path.
**Please practice cache in, trash out, this place is in dire
need of more cleanup efforts.**
Parking is a bit of a hassle. Here are the coordinates of a
place to park, if you know of other places please share.
Street parking at n33 58 944 w118 26 286
Just follow the dirt path/fire road.
Here is a website to enjoy: http://www.ballona.org/
I used a Geko 201 for the coordinates. One cacher says that in
GoTo mode his Garmin eTrex Vista was off 20+ feet but that in map
mode it took him right to the spot.
Here is some history (thanks to Amtraker) Nearby is a historical
railfan site. Two Pacific Electric lines:
1: Redondo Beach-Del Rey Line (which ran along Culver Blvd)
http://www.erha.org/pewrbdr.htm
2: Inglewood-Santa Monica Line (which ran beside the 90 Fwy
here) http://www.erha.org/pewil.htm
There was also a curved connection between the two lines which
you can see today near the cache area.
This page has some old photos of the Inglewood Line just west of
this area:
