This special place reminds us of a dungeon or basement: dark, spooky but fascinating. We imagine the scene is right out of a Harry Potter novel. Slytherins would like this place. The black flies like it too, so bring some bug spray in season.
This cache is located a short distance off Route 374 near Chateaugay Lake -- that's between Lyon Mountain and Chateaugay. You'll be parking on the side of the highway, so watch for traffic. Cache is less than 400 feet off the road. But really, it's in a different world. Want more directions? See the hints.This is public land, recently taken over by the Town of Ellenburg. The structure you are going to visit is part of the nearly forgotten history of Chateaugay Lake. It was built at at time when wealthy vacationers spent their whole summers at nearby hotels. The hotels, and the way of life, are long since gone. The summer people used this place to make their own entertainment: concerts, plays, shows.The cache is in a recycled bubble-gum container. We've stocked it with a bunch of creatures. But most are cuddly, not scary.Tree cover makes GPS readings tough here. We've done our best to get it right.
