Rattlingcrew: Let me know if the cache gets replaced. The state has 69 disabled caches and it is driving me crazy! Thanks Steve, Glen

Nice easy, summertime cache in an out the way spot with a little history of the old west.
This is the Chisholm Trail Marker I remember from growing up. It is on OLD U.S. 160.
OLD U.S.160 has not been a highway since sometime in the early 60's, but it was quite a road in its day. Narrow bridges, a few of which still remain, old Hyde Park milk signs and a surprising amount of up and down no passing zones for a fairly flat part of Kansas. A 20 foot wide pavement with narrow shoulders to match. Railroad crossings and squared off corners around Argonia, an underpass prone to flooding east of Wellington, confusing intersections with US 81 in Wellington, and curves going into Oxford and west of Wellington where it dropped half a mile south to go through Mayfield and Milan. It probably would take over an hour to cross Sumner County on it back in the 60's because it went through every town near its route: Argonia, Milan, Mayfield, Wellington and Oxford. Just west of Argonia, it crossed the Chicaskia River three times on the celebrated Three Bridges. They just don't build them like this one any more.
After more than 40 years, I was surprised this marker was still there, but it is quite well maintained in a park by either the city of Wellington or Wellington township. Read the marker, e-mail me if you know any more history about where the trail crossed Slate Creek as referenced in the marker. I wonder if the oldest building in Sumner County is still standing somewhere. 1869 was a few years before my time.
Cache is not intended to be difficult at all. I would rate it a 0.5/0.5 if that were an option. Mother Nature has shattered the hollow tree it was hidden in, so now it is even easier. Tread lightly until you find it. In a Lays Stackable chips container, washed out and coated with Cammo-Duct Tape (a geocachers dream?) as well as the ubiquitous black electrical tape (to cover the yellow Lays lid). I am hoping it is well enough hidden to avoid muggles.Original contents are three golf balls, some Florida Quarters, a Spiderman ball, log book & pen, Peace Be With You Travel Bug, and miscellaneous other treasures and trinkets.
