Find an ancient Hakka village hidden in the forest of Hong Kong
New Owner needed - I no longer live in HK, a volunteer invited to adopt this cache that so many have enjoyed finding over last 15 years
The village of Tai Lo was abandoned several hundred years ago and people relocated further downhill. But the old stone path is in good condition and the family still maintain the ‘Chi Tong’ – shrine. In the woods around are remains of old buildings and some very strange carved stones.
From the city head for Saikung by taking MTR to Diamond Hill or Choi Hung and any bus heading for Sai Kung, get off bus when it gets back down to sealevel at Ho Chung. Turn off road at Ho Chung and follow narrow road up Ho Chung valley about 2km. Where the road goes left over a bridge take the right turn up towards some houses – the path to Tai Lo starts on the left opposite the first houses at N22 21.554 E114 14.144 paint on the path near the start confirms you are on the right one !
Cache is about 1km up the very beautiful path. In 1998 I built a website about this – pre-broadband – I have revived it at (visit link)
The cache itself is a small sealed plastic box with logbook, pencil, some coins of different countries, an owl and Euro2004 game card.
