Geocache Description:

This is a nice journey in and around Glenrock, WY. Easy on & off of I-25 and a nice historical lesson of the Oregon Trail. Total length from one virtual cache to the actual cache is 10 miles. If your traveling I-25 get off at exit # 160 and start with the Martin Ringo Grave site. I have updated the Ringo coordinates on 3/8/05 as they were wrong. Sorry for any problems.

This is a nice journey in and around Glenrock, WY. None of the caches are difficult, and if you solve the puzzle you’ll have the coordinates of the “Glenrock Journey” Geo-Cache. Located off I-25 and normally takes no more than 30 minutes to locate all points. Stop in and get some gas and find out some western history!

You can visit the first four virtual caches in any order but must visit them all to get the coordinates of the actual cache. The coordinates for the Glenrock Journey in clue format are: N42° 50.AC’ W105° BB.DB’. The Cache is in a green 50 caliber ammo box.

A) Go to N42° 51.659’ W105° 55.597’; this is the gravesite of Martin Ringo. He died at this location of an accidental self-inflicted shotgun wound! He was also the father of the famous gunslinger Johnny Ringo. Subtract 1 from his age at death. Use those digits to fill the corresponding “A” of the Glenrock Journey coordinates.

B) Go to N42° 51.670’ W105° 52.964’; this is the site of the Rock in the Glen. Take some time to go up to and read some of the names of Oregon Trail travelers engraved here, just like Independence Rock. Determine the third digit of the year of John Fremont’s first expedition. Use that digit to fill in the corresponding “B’s” of the Glenrock Journey coordinates.

C) Go to N42° 51.853’ W105° 52.262’; this is the location of the Deer Creek Station. Determine the fourth digit of the year when the station was called Nuttal. Use that digit to fill in the corresponding “C” of the Glenrock Journey coordinates.

D) Go to N42° 49.572’ W105° 47.422’; this is the gravesite of Alvah Unthank who died on the Oregon Trail. Add the second and third date of when he was camped here; you will get a two-digit result. Use this two-digit number to fill in the corresponding “D” of the Glenrock Journey coordinates.

Once you have gone to the above virtual cache sites go to the following coordinates N42° 50.448’ W105° 44.468’ and park. It is a short walk to the Glenrock Journey Geo-Cache from here. The coordinates for the Glenrock Journey Geo-Cache are N42° 50.AC’ W105° BB.DB’

Contents of this cache include: Disposable camera (take a picture of yourself! let us know if it’s out of film) Cache log (brief history of Glenrock area, please don’t take this one I will email one to you if you like) Please be sure to log your visit in the written log as a few have forgotten to as of late (7/2007)/p>
