This is a nice journey in and around Glenrock, WY. None of the
caches are difficult, and if you solve the puzzle you’ll have the
coordinates of the “Glenrock Journey” Geo-Cache. Located off I-25
and normally takes no more than 30 minutes to locate all points.
Stop in and get some gas and find out some western history!
You can visit the first four virtual caches in
any order but must visit them all to get the coordinates of the
actual cache. The coordinates for the Glenrock Journey in clue
format are: N42° 50.AC’ W105° BB.DB’. The Cache is in a green 50
caliber ammo box.
A) Go to N42° 51.659’ W105° 55.597’; this is
the gravesite of Martin Ringo. He died at this location of an
accidental self-inflicted shotgun wound! He was also the father of
the famous gunslinger Johnny Ringo. Subtract 1 from his age at
death. Use those digits to fill the corresponding “A” of the
Glenrock Journey coordinates.
B) Go to N42° 51.670’ W105° 52.964’; this is
the site of the Rock in the Glen. Take some time to go up to and
read some of the names of Oregon Trail travelers engraved here,
just like Independence Rock. Determine the third digit of the year
of John Fremont’s first expedition. Use that digit to fill in the
corresponding “B’s” of the Glenrock Journey coordinates.
C) Go to N42° 51.853’ W105° 52.262’; this is
the location of the Deer Creek Station. Determine the fourth digit
of the year when the station was called Nuttal. Use that digit to
fill in the corresponding “C” of the Glenrock Journey
coordinates.
D) Go to N42° 49.572’ W105° 47.422’; this is
the gravesite of Alvah Unthank who died on the Oregon Trail. Add
the second and third date of when he was camped here; you will get
a two-digit result. Use this two-digit number to fill in the
corresponding “D” of the Glenrock Journey coordinates.
Once you have gone to the above virtual cache
sites go to the following coordinates N42° 50.448’ W105° 44.468’
and park. It is a short walk to the Glenrock Journey Geo-Cache from
here. The coordinates for the Glenrock Journey Geo-Cache are N42°
50.AC’ W105° BB.DB’
