Nottingham Hill Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

cthomas: With great sadness I have removed the cache.
Forestry work has made the cache not easily accessible, and the paths to the site are not as easily navigable as they once were.
My responsibility to my wife who has dementia mean that I can no longer visit the site regularly.
21 years is not a bad lifetime for a geocache.
Thanks to all who visited and logged the site.
Chris

Geocache Description:

As of Sun 18th August, I have had to temporarily remove the cache, due to the location being unreachable due to forestry work. The path is blocked by a large berm of branches and twigs. I hope to replace it in the near future in a nearby non-obvious location. The cache has been here since May 2004, so has celebrated its 20th birthday (Yay!) The cache is located in a wood just below the ramparts of a large hillfort on Nottingham Hill, 1 mile north of Cleeve Hill.

This cache has celebrated its 20th birthday, in a beautiful part of our area. The ramparts around the plateau are natural, and you can still see the banks and ditch which protected the fort at the south-east end. This is a beautiful spot with spectacular views of the Cotswold scarp and over the valley to Malvern and beyond. Recommended parking is at N51°57.008’ W002°1.545’. The cache is about 0.6 miles away. The path can be muddy and is steep in places so may not be suitable for buggies (except the ATV type). The cache is a large clear picnic box. After locating the cache, we highly recommend that you return by way of a slightly longer round trip (1.7 miles in total). Continue along the path through fields and woods, then bear right to reach the junction of four paths. Take the path signposted to Cleeve Common. This ancient lane takes you across the middle of the hillfort with views across to Winchcombe and Evesham. When you reach wooded areas again, turn right into the ditch between the entrance earthworks. Follow the path back down to the car park. This cache can be visited as part of the new NottHill series by Sulis Manoeuvre. Hope you enjoy this cache - Chris, Marion and Callum Note: Driving away from the parking place, be warned that the drive down the hill, is 1-in-4 and VERY narrow.
