On Highway 191, take Canyonlands National Park and Newspaper Rock exit (State Road 211) which is about 42 miles south of Moab and 14 miles north of Monticello. Cache is just off State Road 211, beyond Newspaper Rock on southern entrance to Canyonlands National Park, near Dugout Ranch (Harts Point South quad). Short dirt road, but accessable by car.
This cache is named for the beautiful sandstone monuments that can be seen in every direction. Take the dirt road exiting west from State Road 211, less than 1/2 mile. If you come to the stream, you've gone too far, but the kids will probably like to play in it. The correct dirt road is NOT the one to "Dugout Ranch," but the one to "Beef Basin," a little further down the road.
Cache is a tupperware box.
The miners in this area were after uranium.
