Park at the gate at N48 02.074 W121 54.875 and hike to the cache. The hike is an easy 1.4 mile with an elevation gain of 225 feet.About half way take the road that forks to the right.
The cache is located about three steps off the road. It is a quiet spot with a nice place to sit, rest, and sign the log book near by. You will be able to see across a green valley that the Pilchuck River flows through. Take advantage of this Department of Natural Resources area. This would be a good place to use your mountain bike and do some exploring. Also a great area to bring your dog(s) for exercise.
Just south of the listed parking coordinates is a large parking area used by Off Road Vehicle enthusiasts. It is owned and managed by Snohomish County, with DNR managing the logging for them. It has been called “Reiter Pit” in the past. Typical of most multi-use areas, controversy has risen over the impact that ORV’s have tree growth and value. Foresters feel that the vehicles pack the soil around the trees which impedes the growth and value. DNR find it more difficult to manage these areas because of funding reductions in the past few years. DNR does have a sanctioned ATV area at Walker Valley. Perhaps this would be a good spot for another DNR series cache!
