Geocache Description:

This cache is on top of Marias Pass!

A beautiful place to stop and take a break from driving. Nice parking area with bathrooms, phone, one statue and a monument.
There is also a nice camping area, Summit Campground, next to the parking area (closed in winter but only $10 a night when open during the summer month's). But you better like the sounds of trains going by when you camp there. I love the sound of trains when I camp out!
People have been complaining that it is muddy up there by this cache, so I placed the following disclaimer:
Warning!! The top of the Continental Divide and trails may be be dirty and muddy!! Warning! The top of the Rocky Mountains may be muddy and dirty!!! LOL!
I've asked the Forest Service to pave the top of the Continental Divide but they told me no. So you might have to hike in some mud.
Summertime it's a breeze! But be a little wary as this is smack dab in the middle of prime Griz, lion, wolf, lynx and moose country! This area contains more Grizzlies than anywhere else in the lower 48's and the Grizzlies don't mind the muddy trails! The muddy trails are great for tracking critters in too. Last time there I spotted fresh elk tracks in the mud.
This is my most favorite cache that I own and the first cache on top of Marias Pass, too.
This cache is hopefully under deep snow in winter time.
If coming from the west keep going until you come to the main paved parking/rest area to start your hike.
Please write small and/or short so the log last longer as this is on top of the world and no one lives nearby including the cache owner, me.
For a nice hike go beyond my cache to the gas line right-of-way clearing and you can hike straight up to the nearby "Summit-Up" cache then back down on trail #133. A nice little loop that takes about an hour.
It really touches me that so many people have found this cache that I placed so long ago when hardly any caches where in Montana. I'm glad that everyone stops to visit this cache. I even visit it every time I go by just because I love the area so much.
Happy Caching!
