Every cache should be worth its salt...
The best place to begin your quest to this cache is from the
historic town of Saltsburg, Pennsylvania.
The downtown area is definitely worth checking out while you are
here. Pick up a pamphlet for the "Walking Tour of Historic
Saltsburg" if you can spare some time for a little sightseeing.
The cache will be found somewhere along the Westmoreland Heritage
Trail which is a new rails to trails project that will utilize the
abandoned right-of-way of the Rochester & Pittsburgh Coal
Company rail line between Saltsburg and Trafford. The trail surface
from Saltsburg to the cache isn't finished yet but it's bike-able
and the bridges have been completely refurbished to get you across
two formidable water hazards with ease. The trail begins at 40°
28.913', -79° 26.896 where you will find a Path of Progress exhibit
labeled "Canal vs. Railroad". Follow the WHT from here to the
cache.
If you're looking to do some more rail-trail hiking or biking,
the Saltsburg section of the West Penn
Trail begins nearby at 40° 28.909', -79° 26.762'.
