A beautiful Park in northern Bloomfield! Most of the walk will be spent very close to the River on a flat trail. There are many wild flowers, water fowl (we saw a momma merganser with 8 tiny babies!), and other creatures (we also saw a baby snake).
The Park is not well known and not quite marked (there is an Information Bulletin Board, but nothing on it, and a Porta Potty). Parking is at N 41 53.561, W 72 44.714.
From the Parking area, walk 0.17 miles down a dirt road (sign says: No Vehicles) to the trail head. The Trail Head is just off this dirt road, immediately after it crosses a stream (at N 41 53.539 W 72 44.535). Please take this trail (the dirt road continues on towards private residences)! The Cache is another 0.4 miles down this trail. Enjoy! Bring Mosquito Repellent!!!
We used two GPS’s to mark the location of this cache. The coordinates of the more sensitive unit are above. The 2nd GPS yielded coordinates of N 41 53.408 W 72 44.100. This represents about 45 feet of separation. Both GPS’s were insistent on their results, so we’re curious to know what all finders’ coordinates are.
It is possible to canoe / kayak the River to a point very close to the Cache (and, if you’re near the cache, you’ll easily find the trail near the shore). For the river route, refer to http://www.frwa.org/recreation/rec_section6.html for put-in and take-out information (you should do the “all paddler” section and avoid the treacherous Tarrifville George).
