This is a tour of the historic little town of Port Burwell, on Lake Erie. The tour actually begins in the hamlet of Vienna, a short distance down the road from Port Burwell. This adventure would be ideally done on a beautiful sunny summer morning, by bicycle from the starting point, to capture the essence of the area. You will have nine easy stops before you can calculate the co-ordinates for the actual cache.
The first stop on your route is at the listed co-ordinates. The last digit of the year that Samuel Sr. settled here is your 'A'. The second stop on your route is N 42-38.731, W 080-48.365. Add 4 to the last digit of the maximum amount of people this lifeboat could hold. The life boat appears to be missing so 5 is the last digit you are looking for. This is your 'B'. The third stop is at N 42-38.740, W 080-48.358. Add one to the number of stars on the quilt. This is your 'C'. Your fourth stop is N 42-38.762, W080-48.392. Your 'D' is the number of shipyards Port Burwell had at its peak. Next, go to N 42-38.715, W 080-48.409. Take the second digit of the distance the light was visible, and subtract 2. This is your 'E'. Sixth stop is at N 42-38.713, W 080-48.412. The third digit of the length of the schooner this anchor is from, is your 'F'. Your seventh stop is N 42-38.701, W 080-48.413. Multiply the number of cylinders in this diesel by two. That will give you your 'G'. Eighth, walk out to N 42-38.397, W 080-48.432. The number of the month these navigation lights were permanently turned off is 'H'. Lastly, go to N 42-38.732, W 080-48.201. The third digit in the year of death of Lt-Col Burwell is your 'J'. Once you have those figures, plug them in as follows: N 4F - DH.A0B W 080 - JG.0CE And you are on your way to the cache!
