Given co-ords are for the Icelandic Settlement Disaster Monument. Main cache is a short walk down a multi-use rail trail which may also be used by ATV and snowmobiles. You'll hear them coming.
In 1874 a group of emigrants came from Iceland to Kinmount to help build this rail line. However when the Victoria Railway Company failed the same year, they spent the winter unemployed in four crowded log bunkies provided for them downstream from this monument.
On the monument, note the number of Icelanders who came here.
Add this number to 44 46.114 for the latitude
and add the same number to 78 38.905 for the longitude of the cache.
There is free parking, and playground :), just south of the Austin Sawmill. Here you may take the Victoria Rail Trail or the foot path along the river if the mosquitos aren't too wild. The two meet shortly before the cache which is within 5 feet of the rail trail. No bushwcking required.Cache is a peanut butter jar wrapped in camo tape.
