Geocache Description:

This is a somewhat unusual two-stage multi located in the James River Park North Shore. You'll need your GPS for the first stage, but the second will test your treasure-map reading skills!

The dread buccaneer Yellowbeard hid a portion of his treasure on the banks of the James River. Not trusting his GPS under the heavy tree cover during the summer, Yellowbeard drew a rough map to his hoard and hid it in a spot where he knew he could find it and marked that spot on his handy GPS. Unfortunately, his two-legged crew caught a glimpse of the coordinates and made copies of the map so they could visit and swap items out of Yellowbeard's treasure chest.

This is a somewhat unusual two-stage multi-cache. The coordinates will lead you to a container that holds copies of a crude treasure map. Follow the map from there to where Yellowbeard hid his booty. The items in the cache include foreign and semi-rare coins, unusual geological treasure, jewelry, and other valuables Yellowbeard has collected in his travels. When trading, please try to stick to the theme to avoid tipping the buccaneer to the fact that his hoard has been compromised!

The trek from start to finish is approximately 1 1/2 miles in length and is fairly level and easy going for most of it. Yellowbeard's map will guide you past some very interesting sights and several incredible views of the James. However, there is one water crossing that is likely to require wading of flowing, calf-deep water or so unless the river is really low. Crews with young buccaneers should take that into account before attempting this cache.

The first stage is hidden in a piece of 2" PVC piping, capped at both ends and painted black to hide it from marauding muggle pirates. One end, marked with a gray spot, is removable; the other is sealed in place. When replacing this container, put the cap back on firmly, but not so tightly that the next visitor won't be able to open it! The second stage is roughly half the size of an ammo can, but its opening is fairly resticted. Trade items following the them of the cache should fit with no problem.

Along your hunt, you'll pass fairly close to Texas Beach in Richmond by TeamBlackZ, so if you've not visited that cache yet, take a break and do so!
