The Three Sisters
In a time long past there were three sisters. They lived in a small house on the edge of a Mysterious Magical Forest. Each day they would venture into the wood to gather flowers, herbs and wild berries and nuts and other plant food that the forest provided. They lived happily like this for several years.
But, gradually, they had to go deeper and deeper into the trees to find their food.
One day they were following a trail well traveled into the depths of the wood and came across a trail that lead off into a part of the forest that seemed to shimmer with Mystery. The Young women were enthralled and could not help but be drawn along the trail. Soon they came to a meadow with a one huge tree in the middle, Its branches almost reaching out to the edges of the meadow surrounding it. The tree was so tall that the girls could not see the top of it. The tree appeared to be on top of a mound and surrounded by a clear pool of water. This was amazing. They could not stop looking at it. They slowly began to walk around the edge of the meadow looking, expecting something to happen. When they reached the other side of the meadow they were surprised to find a door in the side of the hill under the tree.
Suddenly, there was a loud creaking noise and the door began to open while smoke came pouring out from beyond. Then a figure appeared in the doorway, stumbling and then falling, rolling down the hill into the water. It looked like it may be a little old man. The three sisters all ran at once to help the person. When they came to the side of the individual they grabbed his arms and pulled him from the water before he could drown. The little man coughed and then opened his eyes. They were red from the smoke but he smiled and told the young women thanks for saving his life and as a reward he would give them a wish.
He was the Oracle of the Mysterious Magical Forest and had the power to grant them their hearts desire.
“So think carefully before you wish”, he told them. The three women thought and thought and then they thought some more. The oldest sister wanted to be healthy. The middle sister wanted to be rich. The youngest sister wanted to be smart. They went to the Oracle and told him of their wishes. He said,” I’m sorry you must have misunderstood. I told you I would grant you a wish—that is one wish—not a wish for each of you but only one wish for the three of you.” The sisters were disappointed but hey thought it over and figured that if they could have long life maybe they could get everything they desired eventually.
So, they wished for long life and the Oracle granted it. As an added reward they were asked to guard The Treasure of Kwester the Oracle of The Mysterious Magical Forest. And they guard it to this day in a small part of the Forest that remains today.
