The Pringle Tree cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

LukeDukeWV: Regretfully I have to archive this cache, it has been muggle too many times. Even the birdhouse didn't keep the muggles away! Thanks to everybody who claimed this smiley!

Geocache Description:

The Pringle Tree cache is located in a small county park.

The Pringle Tree was a gigantic primeval sycamore tree on the edge of the Buckhannon River, and was home to brothers Sam & John Pringle, deserters from Fort Pitt (Which is now Pittsburgh), during the French and Indian War in 1764. They were the first white settlers in this area of West Virginia, and lived in the hollow tree for a long time.

"The tree in question was a great sycamore standing at the junction of a small stream flowing from the west with a beautiful river winding its tortuous way northward among shapely, rounded hills, all densely covered with virgin forest -- part of a wilderness which stretched unbroken from the Great Lakes to the Gulf, and from the eastern slopes of the Appalachian Mountains to the boundless reaches beyond the Ohio." --From "Scout of the Buckongehanon" by J.C. McWhorter

Here's a link to some more info about the Pringles: (visit link)

The current tree is a third-generation scion of the original, and is itself enormous for a sycamore, and like its forebear, it's hollow. The park is small, with a picnic area and good fishing spots. The tree cover makes reception spotty, so I averaged several readings.

Please re-hide as found! This area has relatively high muggle potential!
