Geocache Description:

Located just North of Mary Lake, right along a section of the Oak Ridges Moraine Trail.
Cache elevation: 315m

This cache was originally hidden as part of the Home on the Moraine series, but has now been transitioned to a regular cache hide.

You can enter the main trail from the East off of Keele Street (my preferred entrance) at: N43° 57.238' W79° 32.111' or the West off of Jane Street (park at across the road in the cemetery lot) at: N43° 57.330' W79° 33.717'. You can also access the main trail from a side trail from the North along 16th Sideroad (no space for safe parking though) at: N43° 57.686' W79° 33.194'

The highlight of this area is where the trail swings around Lake Marie and crosses through the property which was once the farm and summer home of Sir Henry Pellatt and is currently home to the Augustinian Monastery of Mary Lake. You'll hike right through this section when heading in from Keele Street. Take some time and enjoy the view of the lake from the bench near the pump house. (This is to the East of the cache, for those who decide to hike in from Jane Street...) Oh ya, bring some bug spray along in the summer... unless you actually like to attract mosquitoes!

The cache is a .50cal Ammo Can painted camouflage.

The Oak Ridges Moraine extends 160 kilometres from the Niagara Escarpment in the west to the Trent River system in the east, and is on average 13 kilometres wide. One-hundred-and-fifty metres deep, the Moraine stands out as one of the most distinct landscapes of southern Ontario. Its height above the flat lands to the north and south, its rolling hills and river and stream valleys and large blocks of mixed forest provide solace and a sense of connection to the people who live, work and play on the Moraine, natural and wild habitat for flora and fauna, and untapped recreational opportunities.

NOTES:
