JULY 10, 1800 hrs....WOW! What a GREAT TURNOUT! I want to thank each and every cacher and team that made it to the Event Cache and made it a success!! Thanks for all the kudos, but all the planning in the world doesn't do anything if no one comes, but you all were great and I hope a good time was had by ALL. We certainly had enough to EAT! Yea! Dont'cha just love BBQ pot-lucks??
Special thanks to my hubby VStar, Bob & Linda of Team Petite Elite, and Telaviper (my Posse buddy) for helping run the event.
We had 42 Teams or individuals sign in from all over Arizona and Las Vegas. Lots of cachers and kids! Everyone seemed to have fun eating, talking, doing the contest run, and petting and riding/driving Petite Elite's li'l miniture horse, Rocky. At 1530 hrs we announced the winners of the GPS scavenger-hunt clue contest.
Third place, with a time of 1 hour 18 minutes went to PANDA77 of Wickenburg. Second place with a time of 1 hour 10 minutes went to The Cow Spots of Tucson. These 2 both won a Tupperware or camo-jar fully stocked cache, ready to hide.
FIRST PLACE, with a time of 1 hour 1 minute 30 seconds went to Stringcachers of Glendale! They won a fully stocked AMMO can cache, ready to hide! The 'Booby Prize' went to Ghostcachers ~ Koala Glen and Sleepy Dave....we still have NO idea what they were out there doing for 3 hours and 25 minutes!!!
The RAFFLE was great fun~! About 10 people won small, cute and/or useful prizes, and the top three prizes were 3 fully stocked AMMO can caches, all ready to hide! (These are 'Lincoln' caches!) They went to WeC*EM of Casa Grande, Team EvilFish of Chandler, and murphslaw of Higley! Congrats!
We look forward to reading all the FIND logs and We are very glad to have met all of you!!
UPDATE: 6/28/04: TWO of the YELLOW JEEP TB's have arrived early and are camping out...
UPDATE: 6/22/04: There is a rumor going around that a number of Official Yellow Jeep Travel Bugs will be available for distribution at this event! Stay tuned for more details!!
The Event Cache will be held at the YAVAPAI COUNTY JEEP POSSE HEADQUARTERS Building in north Prescott at the above coordinates. Think of it as a GIANT macro-cache in order to find us and log in!. Cooler weather and some brand-new Prescott caches are available!!
The building has a full kitchen, restrooms, inside seating and tables, large porch and outside areas including BBQ and parking. PLease drop in whenever you like, stay as long as you like, come and go - we will be there from 1000 to 1600 enjoying the food, music and fellowship, RAIN or SHINE. Name tags will be provided so that we can all start to put faces to log (written and online) sigs!
FOOD: A BBQ will be fired up from 11am to approx 2 pm, please bring your own meat and buns if you wish, and AT LEAST ONE (prefer TWO) side dishes to share pot-luck style. The more food the better, eh? Bring snacks, salad, dessert. etc. We have heating/cooking and refrigeration facilities, but can NOT keep food hot or cold while it is on the serving table, so keep that in mind when you plan. We will provide the common condiments and garnishes, soda, coffee, water (no alcohol on premises, please), paper plates, cups and utensils.
EVENTS:
CONTEST: There will be a scavenger hunt-GPS-clue-style contest that anyone can go out and complete between 10:30 am and 2 pm, which should take approximately one hour to complete (unless you get totally lost!) and will incorporate a couple completely new caches to log and find. You will need to pick up the instruction sheet and sign out with your time when you leave, and sign back in with your time when you return in order to be in the contest. At 3:30 pm, the person/team with the most correct answers in the shortest time will win a great geocaching-appropriate prize!
RAFFLE: We will be selling (cheap) raffle tickets so you can win one of 2 great geocaching-appropriate prizes, and a number of smaller, fun and possibly useful items!
The drawing will be held at 3:30 pm and you, or a representative holding your ticket must be present to win (how else would we get the prize to you??)
TRAVEL BUGS: A table will be set aside for travel bugs to be displayed, dropped off and picked up. PLEASE BRING A PRINT OUT OF EACH TB'S PAGE, or A CARD WITH EACH TB's ORIGIN, GOALS, etc...so folks will know which TB's are appropriate to take. It will be the individual geocacher's responsibility to log the bugs in and out of the Event Cache, the Co-Hosts will not be responsible for all that! :-)
YELLOW JEEP TRAVEL BUGS! These will be given out in some pre-determined fashion, and in such a way as to hopefully distribute them around central and northern Arizona.
PRESCOTT AREA CACHES: Print-outs of most of the local Prescott caches will be available, including several brand-new caches by Petite Elite! So, in case you forget to bring your cache pages, or decide to do more or different ones, the info will be available.
HAM: We will be casually monitoring the (2M) 147.22+ (PL 162.2) Mingus repeater. No hints on location for talk-in! But someone should be listening most of the time in case you need help, want to chat amongst yourselves, or with the "EVENT BASE". Normal HAM courtesy applies, please, as this is a busy open repeater.
Host HAMS: Bob WB6ODR (will be wearing the HT most of the time), Linda KD7EEO; Trisha N7TMY; Dan WB6ALS
PETS: The question of pets, specifically dogs, has come up. Pets of all kinds are welcome if kept contained (leashed) and picked up after (common sense stuff). Due to an allergy to dogs, we would ask that "inside time" be limited, i.e. walk-thru on leash is fine, sitting for awhile may cause an allergy. There is plenty of outside area and shade for our canine friends to enjoy!
We hope to have a great turnout! See ya on July 10!!!
