Updated June 2016 - renovations at the rest stop removed the picnic tables and the pavilions under which the original cache had been hidden. The cache now is sheltered nearby and can be easily accessed from the main road. I recommend pulling fully off the road if you approach this way and please watch small children as this is an extremely busy road with a high speed limit. If the pullout is not in use you can probably pull in there, and the location of the cache will give you a great excuse for why you pulled over. "We just wanted a picture at the sign!"
When ParkerPlus retired from caching in August 2015 I had the honor of adopting this cache. The following is the original cache description......
"On the way to pickup some Sr. High church campers in Nacogdoches, Texas, I needed to take a quick break and stop for a few minutes. I have traveled past this rest stop many times traveling thru Lufkin taking the kids to Camp Powers outside of Nacogdoches. This time I had to stop and make a pit stop.The rest area is not maintained too well, so mosquitoes may be in the area. I didn't see any poison ivy. Some parking is available. Easy access from either side of the road.The cache is larger than than a 35mm film canister and contains some trinkets, log book and pencil. The container is protected from the rain."
Updated in August 2015.... The rest stop is no longer in use and often times at least one of the ends is blocked off. When I found this cache I parked at the end that was not blocked off and walked into the rest area.
