Geocache Description:

The Divide.

Rainfall to the East of this spot eventually runs to the Atlantic ocean, and everything to the West makes its way to the Pacific Ocean.
Here is an easy micro-cache to log as you stop and take a break from that long drive, wherever you may be going.
You will still have to be stealthy about retrieving and replacing the cache container as this is a very busy spot.
As with all caches, please be careful on your way to find this one!

The coords will lead you to a sign for The Divide.
You will need to then walk 50 steps to the west in order to find this micro.
Please be as stealthy as possible, you will be out in the open for retrieval/replacement.
There is enough room in the logbook for at least the next hundred finders!

Good luck, Geocacher!!

On 11/17/06 I adopted this cache from Team 360. This location is special to me. In 1955 my family stopped here on a trip between Dallas and San Diego. This was Route 66 back then. I was only 2 at the time and I recently found an old photo of my two brothers posing by an older version of this sign as proof that we stopped here. I wasn't in the picture because I was sleeping in the car and nobody wanted to wake up a crabby 2 year old. Enjoy the cache, Ballooner.
Note: Someone posted a message saying that the waters east of the Continental Divide DO NOT flow to the Atlantic Ocean. They flow to the Mississippi River. Yes, they do go to the Mississippi River (along most of the Divide) but then the Mississippi flows into the Gulf of Mexico which is officially a part of the Atlantic. And to be more accurate, most of the waters east of the Divide in New Mexico flow to the Rio Grande which also flows directly to the Gulf of Mexico. Just saying .... thanks for visiting.

This is a "Truck Friendly Cache". If you drive a big rig or RV there is ample parking area near this cache. There should be plenty of room to turn around or you can use the north side frontage road (Old 66) to get back on I-40. If you are eastbound, use exit 47 for the cache and then continue east on the north side frontage road to exit 53 to get back onto I-40. If you are westbound use exit 53 and continue west on the north side frontage road to the cache then get back onto I-40 at exit 47. No turnarounds and you can enjoy a few miles of Old Route 66.
