This black box should be an easy find, I get great GPS signals up here. You can expect a mild climb, at least 100 stairs lie between the cache and the closest parking. This is a small city park which is visited frequently, so please leave the cache well concealed, and replace it in the same spot you found it. There are great views of the city – from downtown all the way out to the Pacific.
This unique municipal park sports a phenomenal view from it's 650' peak, but not much else. Grand View Hill, known to locals as Turtle Hill, is actually a giant sand dune anchored by Franciscan bedrock and covered with a thin layer of topsoil. Dunes like these used to cover the entire Sunset district, stretching from Mount Sutro all the way out to the sea before development began blocking the sand-bearing winds. This is an ecologically sensitive area, the last of it’s kind in San Francisco, so please respect the area and keep to the paths. This is probably my favorite view of the city, a great chance to view the whole thing at once – from bay to ocean. Take a moment to contemplate life and how lucky you are to live here…
Parking is not too difficult here, there are usually plenty of spots at the base of the hill. 14th and 15th Avenues encircle the park, easiest access is from the staircases at 14th and Moraga or 15th near Noriega.
ENJOY!
