Geocache Description:

This is an urban cache at a busy location. The cache is easy to get to and can be done with complete safety - you should reach the cache site by a pedestrian-controlled traffic signal at a pedestrian crosswalk. You never have to leave level surfaces to reach the cache and you will always be separated from traffic by a guardrail.

I think this simple crosswalk is an excellent example of how public works can create something both practical and artistic for the citizenry. It provides a safe passage for all who cross the street. The crosswalk serves hundreds of people a day, from school children to professional students, from university faculty to church-goers, from hospital employees to patients. I also remember the time before the crosswalk - when the dash across the street could be a little dicey, even for physically active adults. The crosswalk also adds a touch of humanity with pretty mosaics covering areas of the low protective block wall that is part of this pedestrian walkway. Three cheers for the civil servants who have planned and executed this and other valuable public works around the Old Pueblo, as well as the artists who have provided their time and creativity to these endeavors.

The cache site really is in the middle of the road, the middle of midtown - the middle of it all.

You’re going to be really exposed to the world at this site.

Stuck in the middle with a cache

After the cache you may enjoy walking through the Blenman-Elm neighborhood, perhaps with a stop at the nearby Arizona Inn, a beautiful and historic resort hotel listed on the National Register of Historic Places. On the other side of the road is the Arizona Health Sciences Center, one of the few places in the country that can boast Colleges of Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing and Public Health on one campus.
