Words in Wallingford Multi-Cache

For those of you who didn’t feel up to the four star difficulty of Crossing Green Lake here is a multi-cache hunt that can be done in less than half an hour without any tricky math puzzles, just a simple calculation and two waypoints separated by less than half a mile.
The coordinates above mark an intersection in the Wallingford neighborhood of Seattle. While standing on the sidewalk at one of the corners of this intersection you will be able to see the five-character string of letters “SKALO” which is part of a larger word.
Notice the letter that that comes before and the letter that follows “SKALO” in the larger word. Convert these two letters into numbers using into an alphabetic count (a = 1, b = 2 … z = 26) using the key below.
Let a = the count of the letter that precedes “SKALO”
Let b = the count of the letter that follows “SKALO”

Go to waypoint2, also in Wallingford, at:
N47 degrees 39 + x minutes
W122 degrees 19 + y minutes
Where x = (5 + 57a) / 1000 and y = (11 + 68b) / 1000.
This waypoint is also at an intersection. Again search for a five-character string that can be seen while standing on the sidewalk at one of the corners of the intersection. This time the string you are looking for, “THECO,”
spans two words.
It’s a little fuzzy but can be made out if you look closely. You will find the cache, a Bison capsule, hidden about 70 feet due east of “THECO.”
