Geocache Description:

A short (30 mins) walk around Astbury Mere

I have changed the clues due to the new notice board.

A short and easy walk around part of (Astbury Mere). Astbury Mere is a lake formed out of the remains of a sand quarry and has previously seen some controversial housing plans when a company fenced off the walk around the lake and wouldn't allow access unless the council let them build houses on the land (claiming health and safety issues).
The mere is now owned by Stoke-on-Trent Anglers and much of the land by the Astbury Mere Trust and the walk takes place on this land.

The visitor centre has some nice leaflets of walks in the area as well as a planned walk around the entire lake. If you are into sailing, canoeing, windsurfing or fishing then these activities are also available.

The multi should not take you more than 30 minutes to complete unless you are a slow walker or like to admire the view from the last multi point. There are some steps towards the end of the cache so is unsuitable for wheelchair users. However, I think this cache can be done with the finds split into two sections. Contact me for more details and I'll draw up an alternative route.

The cache is in a fusebox and is placed in a fairly popular spot with kids so please ensure that you hide it carefully after you have finished.

Make your way to the entrance at N53 09.688, W002 13.905 and make a note of the closing time to ensure you don't get locked in. Find the blue notice board about the area in the car park. From the notice,

  • A = Last but one digit in the phone number x 2
  • B = First digit in 2nd part of the Water Sports Centre post code
  • C = 2nd digit of the A road marked on the map x 2
  • D = Visitor centre closing time
  • E = Visitor centre opening time
  • F = Number of bears on the field - 1

Proceed to N53 09.(ABC - 35) W002 13.(DEF - 3) where you can take a rest (but you shouldn't need it!).

Take the first year, YYYY and the last year ZZZZ and go to N53 09.(YYYY-1404) W 002 13.(ZZZZ-1523) where you can admire the view as in the picture.

By the time you have got here you will have walked fairly close to the cache.

Even though its not that far from the last resting place, you can catch your breath whilst you admire the view. How many footpath signs can you see? - this is E.

The location you are currently at from the previous step is N53 09.(YYYY-1404) W 002 13.(ZZZZ-1523)
The cache is located at N53 09.(YYYY-1404-ExE-1), W 002 13.(ZZZZ-1523-ExE+1)

The maths are not as hard as it may seem!
