The above co-ords are near a Smock Mill (body built on brick base, cap revolves) and can be found at Shipley. This lovely old mill, currently under restoration ( May 2004) was the setting for the T.V. detective series ‘Jonathon Creek’. The original interior was completely boarded out and decorated for each series, then removed entirely after filming.
There are three main types of windmill in Britain, the Tower Mill, the Post Mill and the Smock Mill. This trilogy of caches will visit all three. Each cache can be logged individually, but when all three are completed there will also be a bonus cache. Caches can be completed in any order.
This is the largest working windmill in Sussex built in 1879 and restored as a memorial to the writer Hilaire Belloc who lived nearby and owned the mill for nearly 50 years.
The mill is open 1st 2nd and 3rd Sunday from Easter to October 2 to 5p.m. Bank Holiday Mondays 2 to 5p.m. Adults £2 Children £1.
Refreshments were available in the Village Hall on the day of our visit.
The cache itself is a plastic container with some swapsies.
