One
of Nova Scotia natural wonders.
The Balancing Rock is a giant Triassic basalt column left standing after the
surrounding columns eroded and fell into the sea. This beautiful remnant of the
dinosaur age may also someday fall into the sea. The trail to get there
follows a boardwalk through a bog abundant with pitcher plants. The trail
is approximately 2.5 kms long ending with a series of steep staircases that
revel the marvelous view at the waters edge.
The trail is well maintained and proved an easy hike for young children.
The stairs could be a challenge for weak knees. Parking is available at
the trail head. Central Grove provincial park is located a few kms west
providing restrooms, picnic tables and a short hike to the Fundy shore.
The ferry runs hourly in each direction and only cost $4.00, round trip.
