I planted this cache for two reasons. (1) I truly enjoy this part of the Sierras and want to encourage others to come up this way and maybe plant caches, and (2) I saw this ‘locationless’ cache called Fill in the Blanks.
Doing a little map research, I found the quad name of Old Iron Mountain but I had no clue where Iron Mountain was. As it turns out it is less than the length of a football field from MET and has a dirt road leading up to it. I stubbornly hid the cache near the top even though the location didn’t live up to my expectations. I was surprised how such an ugly place can be in the middle of such a beautiful place. As it turns out, there is a far amount of trash at the end of the dirt road, I guess that sometimes happens at places so close to a main road. I was struck by the ying and yang of the views – beautiful long distance views, poor short distance views.
I picked up a few things and I hope others can do the same. I did have a few spare trash bags and I put them in the cache.
The trinkets are minor. The clue can be decoded using a simple 2-letter transposition (a=c, b=d, c=e, d=f, etc.).
