Geocache Description:

You see the white cross as you drive I-15, on the mountain at the northern end of Rancho Bernardo. Battle Mountain was named for the Battle of San Pasqual which took place about eight miles to the east. Take a hike up the mountain for some awesome views! San Pasqual Valley is to the northeast, Westwood Valley to the west, and of course the freeway and all the housing developments. The hike is less than 1/4 mile, but it’s steep, making it a great cardio workout! Starting elevation is 492’ and top is 790’. Stay on the trail, as you won’t save much time by making your own trail. There used to be nice benches at the top, but they are gone. There are lots of sitting rocks however. There is also a trash can by the cross that you can use to clean up after others who seemed to have used up their energy climbing the mountain.

Parking is at the end of Reata Way. It is a residential street, so be considerate when parking. Trail starts by the steps at the end of the street. (N33 02.782 W117 03.968) Enjoy the cache .

1-4-08 The mountain still has burn from the fire, but the trail is the same and the views are the same.
