Sunset's Solace Traditional Cache
Breaking Away: We are archiving our caches because we have not been able to maintain them properly. We always wanted to play this game in a way that our caches were always a good experience for everyone. So... we hope you enjoyed them. Maybe in the future there will be more Breaking Away caches.

Cache is in SUNY-ESF's Heiberg Memorial Forest. This is a
day-use only area. Directions to the forest: Take I 81. Take
the Tully exit and follow 80E/11S. Continue following 11S by
turning right onto State Street. Turn left onto Onondaga Street.
Turn Right onto Grove Street (immediately cross RR tracks). This
street is a long, curvy street that goes uphill. Follow it to about
300 feet past the top of the hill. Turn Right onto Maple Ridge. You
are now entering Heiberg Forest.
Please Read: We have been given permission to hide
this cache. It is with the understanding that it is on ESF
property, where ongoing environmental research is being done. We
have been asked to please be careful of all plant and animal life
in this area. DO NOT TAKE OR MOVE ANYTHING Some studies may
be conducted in this forest, and the area must stay as natural as
possible. Please do not remove anything in the area, as some things
that may not look 'natural' may in fact be part of an experiment.
Likewise, when you find the cache, please place it back just as you
found it.
There are things about this cache that you will understand once you
get there....This is one of 2 caches hidden in Heiberg Forest. We
recommend that you do this cache last, at sunset if possible. This
is a memorial cache, of sorts. In the cache is a book that is not
for trading. If you have the time, you can take the book to one of
the nearby benches, and spend a little time of reflection. Items to
bring cheer or comfort have been put into the cache. If you can
keep with that theme, it would be appreciated. Don’t plan to
do this cache on June 21 or December 21 at sunset. An area close by
is a special place of reflection for several people on these dates.
This is a traditional cache, placed in a rubbermaid container.
There is a beautiful view here. Nearby is a pavilion with picnic
tables. If you come alone, or in a group, this would be a nice
place to take a picnic. The only drawback is there are no rest
rooms... you would have to travel back to Rt. 11, which is about a
5 minute drive. This cache can be easily removed without disturbing
its surrounding hiding place. Please take it out carefully and
replace well covered. We hope you enjoy this area as much as we do.
