What is art? To one person, an item may have artistic value, but to another, the same item might bring a response of:
WHAT THE . . . ?
The subject of this virtual cache could easily elicit either response. The form and the interactive nature of this sculpture were chosen specifically to respond to the friendliness and vitality of its surroundings, and to enhance the sense of community. Has it succeeded? It has certainly raised the hackles of residents and called into question the council's decision-making process, and the relevance of public art.
To "find" this cache, please email me with the answers to the following questions. There is a plaque at the site that gives the answers to the first two questions. As usual, please don't post the answers here.
- What is the name of this sculpture (acronym and full name)?
- Who are the artists?
- And to prove that you actually visited the site: How many holes in the plate on the underside of the sculpture, and what shape are they?
And to the big question: what does it mean? Well, that's a question that you're going have to figure out for yourself. You may express your opinion in your log, if you wish.
Thanks for visiting. I hope you find the sculpture worth the visit.
