Geocache Description:

‘Tis true…it’s another county high peak in our Peak-A-Boo series. What do you know about Mt. Cardwell? Would you like to know more? It’s the highest peak in Wasatch County at 10,771’ but not the highest point. Mt. Cardwell was designated recently so its name doesn’t appear on older maps.

Wasatch County’s highest point is somewhere along a western ridge of Murdock Mountain to the northeast of Mt. Cardwell at about N40º 40.690, W110º 54.116 with an elevation of about 10,826’. (This info determined from DeLorme Topo USA 4.0 map software.)It is easy to get within 1.3 miles of the peak by driving to N40º 49.853, W110º 54.828 via the Mirror Lake highway with a parking area on the north side of the road at mile marker 28. There is no trail, so set your coordinates for the cache and hike south. When you see cairns you‘ll know you are traveling where others have trod before you. The hardest part of the hike is crossing a vast sea of rocks about .5 miles into the hike. Continue up the north slope of rocks and you’ll soon be at the summit. Then on to PAB: Mt. Cardwell and Cardie’s View cache if you wish. It’s an easy two-fer once you get to the summit.
