Bovevagh Church is an early monastic site, it's name is derived from Both Maeve, the house or church of Maeve. Locally it is linked with St. Rignan, but connections have also been claimed with Patrick, Columba, Adamnan and Aiden, son of Fintan. The present ruin was the parish church in medieval times
