This is an offset cache. Located east of Bemis Woods North not far
from the Salt Creek River. Easily accessed by the Salt Creek
Bicycle Trail. From the parking area walk south until just before
the bridge. This is where you pick up the trail. The walk along the
trail is easy. The path from the shelter to the cache is easy. No
bushwacking required. Once at the shelter take a path north 100
feet to find the cache.
Be careful as the hint is a giveaway.
While you are here log the letterbox cache half the distance to the
cache under a rock.
This cache will lead you to a fine example in good condition of a
hiking shelter constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in
the 1930's.
I have biked and hiked in these woods for a while and there are
many structures I would like to show you. Since these structures
were constructed outside of local jurisdictions many have been
neglected unlike this one which has held up rather well.

This is another in a series which will include many different
structures.
The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was a public works program
that put over three million young men and adults to work during the
Great Depression of the 1930's and 1940's in the United
States.
"I propose to create a Civilian Conservation Corps to be used in
simple work… more important, however, than the material
gains will be the moral and spiritual value of such work." Franklin
D. Roosevelt March 9, 1933
This is a good spot to stop, rest and perhaps have a lunch. Be sure
to check out the rest of the trail as it is a nice walk.
Be sure to hike on the left, facing traffic as many of the bike
riders might not see you coming around a corner.
You are looking for is a pretty big camoed Lock-N-Lock container
that should have enough room for most trade items and travel
bugs.

Update 7-16-04 Lowered difficulty rating.
Update 7-18-04 Added info to indicate this is an offset
cache.
Visit 8-20-04 Replaced container (only one test plug now), replaced
ziplock for logbook and placed back in it's original hiding spot
(more concealed). All is well with the cache.
Visit 5-4-06 Replaced PVC with tupperware as contents kept getting
wet.
8-10-07 Upgraded the container to a Lock-N-Lock. That should keep
the water out! :)
