The Redbud Trail is open all year for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. First, park in the general parking area and from there go about .2 mile pass the gate then take the path to the right. Go about another .2 miles to the trailhead and follow the trail signs. From the parking area you will have traveled about 2.3 miles through oak and pine woodlands to the cache. There are a few steep hills to climb but the trails are well defined. As long as you stay on the trail there should be very little problems with poison oak.
You’ll have about a 450 foot elevation gain with great views of Cache Creek and the surrounding mountains. Look for bald eagles (Nov. – Mar), wildflowers (Mar-May) and you may spot a herd of tule elk at anytime. You should also watch out for snakes, ticks, biting ants (from experience) and other common outdoor pest. Mountain lions and bears may be in the area. Take plenty of water. My wife and I made the round trip to the cache in about 3 hrs with stops for rest and photos.

Do yourself a favor and hike the remaining few hundred feet to Cache Creek where you can rest up in the shade and cool off in the water before making the trip back. After all, you do have to make that 450 ft climb again.
That being said, enjoy the hike, the views and the fresh air and let the cache be secondary to your experience.
