This cache has been archived.

ClownCat: After a great 12+ year run, this cache unfortunately has needed to be archived due to the construction project. Perhaps we will create a new one after the construction has settled down. [:o)]

Geocache Description:

Enjoy a little piece of the Koloa Heritage Trail near Makahuena Point on Kaua'i!

This multi-cache offers some history of the area, along with some fantastic views of Keoneloa Bay, Shipwreck beach, and gorgeous sunsets over the Pacific Ocean. It's a favorite place for our family to visit!

There are 3 straightforward waypoints + the final micro, which is a 35mm film canister. Make sure to BRING your own pen/pencil for this log-only cache.

Parking is available at the Poipu Point Vacation Resort (formerly Embassy VR): 21-52.391N 159-26.484W.

Waypoint 1:
-----------
The posted coordinates will take you to Waypoint 1. Here you will be able to read about the early history of Keoneloa Bay... try to envision what it must've been like and how it was used long ago!

As stated here, when was it used as a temporary fishing camp?
= ABC-DEF A.D.

As written here, the Hawaiian name for the Koloa Heritage Trail contains:
the letter 'a' how many times? = G
the letter 'l' how many times? = H

J = G - H + E
K = A + D
L = D - G + A

you can now find waypoint 2 at: 21-52.JGB North, 159-26.HKL West

Waypoint 2
----------
*** NOTE: As of October 2015, Waypoint 2 is no longer in place. As such, at least for the time being so the cache can remain active, searchers get a freebie regarding M and N: M=8 and N=3. ***

Have you spotted any sea turtles yet? If not, keep looking! They're playing in the waves near the rocks.

How many letters are there in the name of the ahupua'a in which you are now standing? = M

How many letters are there in the name of the ahupua'a that Keoneloa Bay is in? = N

P = (J*N) - M
Q = (A*N) + C
R = (M*K) - (H*J)

you can now find waypoint 3 at: 21-52.PNF North, 159-26.QR West

Waypoint 3
----------
Date built? = S-TU

V = (S*M*N) + L
W = T - U

you can now find the final cache at: 21-52.V North, 159-26.SJW West

After you've logged your visit, please make sure the cache is well-hidden when you put it back. Thanks & have fun!

(Note: my family visits Kaua'i several times a year and will help keep an eye on it)
