Blues Man: This one had a great run. I didn’t intend for part 1 to be difficult for so many cachers. Sorry, if you were one of them. Now it looks like part 1 has gone missing. This was fun for years, but it is time for it to be done. Thanks for all that stopped here.

Geocache Description:

The cache offers a nice view of The Glen which is located within the site of the closed Glenview Naval Air Station. This multi-cache is close to paved trails with parking nearby. Part one will provide coordinates to the final cache in part 2.

This cache, placed July 4, 2004, is a tribute to the Glenview Naval Air Station. GNAS stood on this site for 58 years, playing an important role in 4 major wars. The Thunderbirds and the Blue Angels were stationed here. GNAS alumni included George Bush Sr., Gerald Ford, Butch O'Hare and Neil Armstrong. The military units included anti-sub warfare, marine air control, transport and helicopter squadrons, fleet intelligence support units, army, navy and marine reserves and the coast guard. Over 17,000 carrier pilots trained here. On Sept. 5, 1995, a ceremony was held and GNAS was closed. Gone are 1 million cubic yards of concrete, 1.5 miles of runways and 108 U.S. Navy buidlings. In their place is The Glen, a 1,121 acre mixed use area. Hanger One, although a historical building, was 85% dismantled. Hope you enjoy the cache, the views of The Glen and that you have time to remember the thousands of people that served at the Glenview Naval Air Station.
