Geocache Description:

Located next to a broken bridge that crosses Big Bayou Black.

This cache is located on land once owned by Jim Bowie. Bowie rose to national fame when he died along with 140 heroes in defense of the famous shrine, the Alamo in 1836. He was famous too, for having discovered an old silver mine in Texas. His name is most associated with the design of his own knife blade - the famous Bowie knife. Bowie lived in Terrebonne parish and owned a sugar plantation on the banks of Bayou Black in the area where the nearby Houma Country club building stands today. The adjacent park is named for Bowie, this land was also a part of the plantation. The bridge was built in 1938 and is now obsolete so that it remains in the closed position for cars. You can get within about 10 feet if you just drive right up to the bridge. Should be easy except if there are people in the nearby park. This cache is a magnetic hide a key container with a log book and pen. Other items will not fit in the cache. *3/29/08 *7/10/05-Replaced Log.*
