Geocache Description:

Greenwood Cemetery has the distinction of being the resting place of no less than 8 former mayors of Dallas in addition to numerous war veterans, several from the Civil War era.

Unfortunately, the gates of Greenwood Cemetery (on Oak Grove) are only open daylight hours on weekdays so plan accordingly.

This burial ground is one of four on the Uptown Cemetery Tour.

To follow the path of the tour enter the gates at: 32.48.061 - 96.48.022
and proceed to: 32.48.083 - 96.47.831 where you can read about the Civil War veterans interned here.

Next stop is 32.48.062 - 96.47.831 where you'll learn the story of how Gaston Avenue got its name.

Then on to the 8 mayors of Dallas and the cache.

Quote: "The stories that inhabit these four historical cemeteries present themselves without accusation or apology. They can only reflect the truths of their times."

Please remember that this is sacred ground and should be treated with respect and reverence.
