Spy Glass Peak Lookout tower is located at 5,318' elevation with great views of the area. There is a gate about half a mile from the lookout and I recommend parking there and hiking the rest of the way in; the hike is pretty easy and well worth it! Parking coords: N 47 50.218 W 116 11.440. This is the second cache in the 'Lookout Series'.
The cache is a clear shoe boxed sized container with a blue lid with the usual goodies and is located near the lookout. Please do not attempt to climb up this one -it's not maintained nor currently staffed.
Spy Glass Peak lookout started in 1922 with a 20' platform tower and log cabin, a 50' pole tower with 7x7' cab replaced the first tower in 1930. In 1943, an L-4 cab was added for living quarters on the ground, later remodeled for storage, and is still on the summit. The present 53' treated timber tower with L-4 cab, built in 1950, was last staffed in 1978.For more pictures of the lookout tower: (visit link)
